Fox Clan

Welcome to the Fox Clan!

The Fox Clan is  children, ages 6 to 11 years old, with wilderness mentor Michael Jaguar Jakobsen (aka Teacher Michael).

This class in the Oakland hills is for children who are ready to dive deep into nature, learn ancestral (survival) skills, and explore their unique souls & imaginations through music & storytelling, as well as our Nature Ninja program.

Small Class Size

This class will be limited to 8 children (If more families want to sign up, a second mentor would be hired before increasing the class size). With a smaller mentor to child ratio, we can more easily stay in-tune and connected with each other at all times, and be better suited to tailoring things to each child's need & interests.

Our goal is to create a family atmosphere where our group can coalesce into a little tribe; The Fox Clan!

A place where each child is included, seen, honored, & respected, for their unique gifts & talents. In this way each member of the tribe becomes empowered, and in turn empowers others.

Skills, Crafts, & Culture

Bushcraft: Our Ancestors knew how to live this life to the fullest, without need for stores, money, or electricity. In the Fox Clan, we will be learning, and deepening our skills in the arts of Fire Making, Hide Tanning, Animal Identification & Tracking, Foraging Edible Plants, Knot Tying, & Shelter Building.

The Nature Ninjas: Together we create an honor code for our Ninjas to live by, and children will receive badges when they are able to demonstrate various skills, such as: making a fire without matches, tracking & stalking animals silently, being kind to others, showing forgiveness, or helping to clean the forest.

Connecting to Our Roots: Each child explores their own Ancestral lineages, both recent & ancient, and learning the Stories & Folklore of our ancestors, as well as other cultures.

Crafting: We will also have plenty of time for crafting: leatherwork, beadwork, sewing, carving and more.

Connecting with The Land: Lastly, we will occasionally have guest instructors to teach 2 hour workshops, such as local Native Elders teaching about their cultural crafts and skills, or visit local farms to connect with where our purchased food comes from.

In May, we will perform a short theatrical play, showcasing the skills that we have learned.

Developing the Whole Child

From time to time, as children play together, things can come up; feelings get hurt, or misunderstandings can arise.

When this happens, I will be there to address things right away, and through dialogue, and breath work (if needed), help the child who is upset come back into a relaxed state, and in the process they will learn how to better navigate their own emotions, and better understand themselves & each other as well.
